Cross-Domain Tracking
CLIENT: Kacper Staniul Consulting Ltd.
LOCATION: London, United Kingdom
INDUSTRY: Marketing
WEBSITE: getscrapbook.com
BACKGROUND: High levels of direct traffic and an inability to attribute e-commerce transactions to the right channels/campaigns prompted this client to reach out for help. After a thorough investigation, we discovered that the cross-domain tracking setup in Google Tag Manager (GTM) was not configured correctly. In particular, the “linker” parameter that is used to stitch activity across websites was not carrying through the i-frame to the destination domain. As a result, Google Analytics (GA) was creating a new session/user ID each time the visitor landed on the target site and classifying it as direct.
SERVICES PERFORMED: We diagnosed the issue and then fixed it by implementing a new cross-domain tracking event tag in GTM.
